Retained EU law*
Commission Regulation (EC) No. 865/2006 of 4 May 2006 laying down detailed rules concerning the implementation of Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 on the protection of species of wild fauna and flora by regulating trade therein.
The Regulations implement the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Traders will be required to obtain the necessary import permits for specimens of species listed in the Annexes to Regulation 338/97. In the UK, permits are issued by the UK CITES Management Authority, the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA).

*Some European Union law was retained in UK law by virtue of the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 and the European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Act 2020, with minor modifications to ensure operability.
