The Ivory Act 2018 (Commencement No. 2 and Transitional Provision) Regulations 2022
Registering an item under a standard exemption is instantaneous as it is done as a self-declaration using the digital ivory service.
Applying for an exemption certificate to import a pre-1918 outstandingly high artistic, cultural or historical value item can take up to 35 working days.
The Ivory Act (2018) prohibits the import of items made of or containing ivory, regardless of their age, unless they fall within one of the narrow and carefully defined exemptions.
Those wishing to import ivory must first register the item under Section 10 of the Act or apply for an exemption certificate under Section 2.
Guidance on registering an item can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/dealing-in-items-containing-ivory-or-made-of-ivory
