Notification No.690/2020
With reference to the power conferred under sub-section 19 (a) of Section 5, the Forest Department declared the following categories of endangered wild fauna that need to be protected from extinction, in accordance with the necessity of the state:
- Completely protected wild fauna;
- Normally protected wild fauna;
- Seasonally protected wild fauna.
The above measures aim to conserve wild fauna for their sustainability and prevent extinction in accordance with the existing laws and regulations.
Completely protected wild fauna
A total of (558) species, including (77) mammals, (428) birds, (53) amphibians, (19) marine & freshwater species, are listed in this category. With the approval of the Ministry, the Forest Department may allow, by stipulating conditions, any local or foreign government department, government organization, non‑governmental organization, or individual to capture, transport, and possess completely protected wild fauna or animals regulated for international trade for the purpose of scientific research. Such department, organization, or individual shall have already been permitted to conduct research.
Normally protected wild fauna
A total of (318) species, including (39) mammals, (267) birds, (12) amphibians are listed in this category. The Forest Department may allow to breeding of normally protected wild fauna as a hobby or traditional custom, in accordance with the stipulations.
Seasonally protected wild fauna
A total of (194) species, including (1) mammals, and (193) birds are listed in this category. The Forest Department may allow to breeding of normally protected wild fauna as a hobby or traditional custom, in accordance with the stipulations.
